Colchester vs. Rice ends 3-3 (Jan. 14, 2023)

Burlington, VT – Neutral Zone was in attendance for the Colchester Lakers vs. Rice Memorial Green Knights game at Leddy Arena on Saturday night. The teams had a back and forth, evenly matched game that ended up in a 3-3 tie. This was the third consecutive game that went to OT where NZ President and Vermont scout Steve Wilk was in attendance.

The first period saw Colchester come out strong and take a 2-0 lead. They played a run-and-gun, heavy forecheck game. However, the Lakers took a 5 minute major with one minute remaining in the first and momentum was starting to build for Rice. This allowed Rice to regroup and capitalize with two power play goals to even the score in the second period. They would go on to take a lead that Colchester would quickly respond to, making the game 3-3.

The third period was scoreless with pretty even play and many opportunities from both teams. Both goalies faced quality chances that they steered away to send the game into overtime. In the overtime, both teams had chances, but the goalies stood their ground and the game ended in a tie.
