Kent Upsets Nobles for D1 Championship

Nobles faced-off with Kent at the Worcester Fidelity Center for the D1 Championship. Starting in net for Nobles was sophomore Taylor Hyland and for Kent junior Catie Boudiette. Both goaltenders showed up to play, keeping the game scoreless after one, with each team getting a respectable amount of quality chances. Kent came out hard from the drop of the puck giving Nobles very little room to breath. However, the mature Nobles remained calm and continued to work to break down Kent’s defense.
From the start of the second Nobles came out refreshed and ready to take on Kent’s physicality. The game continued to be intense with back and forth chances for each team. At 5:29 remaining in the period Nobles opened up the scoring on the power play. Katie Pyne received a pass in the slot, spun off pressure, and beat Boudiette five-hole to give them the lead.
Kent put the pressure on in the third and was able to capitalize on a power play opportunity at 10:51 to tie the game. Millie Rose Sirum would score a backdoor goal off of a pass from Luisa Welcke. A few minutes later, Kent scored again and gained their first lead of the game off a similar play with Kiersten Goode putting the puck in the net and Cec Earhard getting the assist. Kent would further their lead at 3:44 when Haley Uliasz blasted a point shot through traffic beating Hyland. Kent’s last goal was an open net from Julia Nearis at 1:54 to give them the win. Final score was 4-1 Kent to capture a D1 NEPSAC Championship.
