Sophia Merageas shutout leads Andover over Winchendon

Andover visited Winchendon for their first contest of the season, but looked to be in mid season form as they cruised to a 3-0 victory.

Anna Bergman ‘21 opened the scoring with a PP tally in the first period off a beautiful feed from Kelly McCarthy ‘19.  In the second, Amelia Meyer ‘21 broke through the Winchendon defense but was thwarted by a nice pad save by Hope Walinski ‘21.  However, Indi Wagner  ‘22 pounced on the rebound and deposited it into the back of the net.  Meghan Ward ‘19 would add some insurance in the third with a beautiful individual effort.

Sophia Merageas ‘20 was in command all game between the pipes for Andover earning the shutout.  Honorable mention goes to Walinski in the Winchendon nets as this game could have been much worse if not for her stellar play.

“Puck possession was key today,” said Andover Head Coach Martha Fenton.  “We rolled four lines today and 7 defenseman.  Our depth will play a major role for us all season.  And I’m very pleased with the contributions from our underclassmen.”
