Canterbury Bounces Back with Win Over Pomfret

Pomfret hosted Canterbury in one of the few games this Sunday. Cate Gallagher got the start for the home team and Jess Ware would be between the pipes at the visitors end.

While both teams got several special teams opportunities, it remained scoreless after the first period. Canterbury getting the majority of the offensive chances.

Second period would bring multiple power play chances for Canterbury, including a 5v3. Pomfret freshman goaltender Gallagher, stepped up, battling through traffic to make several big saves to keep her team tied. However, Canterbury would be able to put one past her with only 23.9 seconds left in the period. On a power play opportunity, the puck worked it’s way around the top of the umbrella and eventually get on the tape of Katherine Hesslink. She got a quick shot off from the dot, pulling the Camels ahead.

Canterbury would net two goals in the final period. The first from Anika Flik, battling pressure on a rush making the goalie drop and putting in a easy goal at 11:42. The final goal would come from Abby Gleason on a clean break to the net with 6:15 left to play.

Canterbury head coach Katie Mandingo comments on the win, β€œOur girls bounced back from a tough loss yesterday against Greenwich. They came out with a fire today.”
