Andover Academy Take a Road Win at Choate

Wallingford, CT– Phillips Academy made the long ride to Remsen Rink at Choate Rosemary Hall for a 4:00 puck drop against the Choate Wild Boars. Senior 2004 Primo Baldassarre started in goal for Choate and sophomore 2005 Ben Skowronek for the visitors.

The first period saw the Wild Boars on an early power play which was killed off with relative ease by PAA. Choate went on the power play again with 7:08 left again with no quality chances and a breakaway chance for Grayden Robertson-Palmer which Baldassarre stopped. Andover has their chance on the power play with 3:20 left and managed a few hard shots on goal to no avail. The period was fairly wide open with the better chances in Andover’s favor.

Andover took over in the second as they scored a goal every few minutes starting 6:31 into the frame. That is when Sam Myles jammed home a puck in tight from sophomore Peyton Militello to give Phillips Andover a 1-0 lead. Joey Zheng followed that up with a snipe on the line rush from Jake LeDoux to make it 2-0 with 8:30 left. Zheng struck again shorthanded on a breakaway pass from Jake LeDoux to make it 3-0 and that is how the second period ended.

The third period saw Andover take a 5-0 lead. Nolan Roche scored the fourth goal 1:23 into the third with Reid Malatesta and Militello adding assists. PAA added another score by Myles on a nice pass from 2006 David O’Neill. It was 5-0 Andover. With 16:32 left, Choate just kept playing and Ethan Hodgson popped home a rebound. With 4:57 left, Jake Gelman slammed a hard deflection home off the back wall to get Choate on the board again. It was now 5-2 with 4:67 left. Andover then took a penalty with 2:56 on the clock. Choate called a timeout to set up a 6v4 situation where Ben Polomsky popped one home in front to make it 5-3 with 1:38 left in the game. The Wild Boars were within two goals and Andover was on their heels. However, Andover settled in and added an empty net goal by Nolan Roche and the game ended 6-3.
