Thayer Skates Past Winchendon

Canton, MA-Thayer used two third period goals to break a 1-1 tie and skate past a tough Winchendon team 3-1 on home ice.  The game was back-and-forth, with each team garnering some quality chances. Both goalies, Theo Clement for Winchendon and Beau Lane for Thayer were strong between the pipes and gave their teams a chance to win.

Winchendon opened the scoring in the first period when Jake Freelove flipped a puck from his defensive zone through the air landing inside the Tiger blueline. Willem Dumais picked up the puck and cut in on the goalie and stuffed the puck home. The Wapiti’s would carry the 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

The second period was tight checking. Thayer knotted the game at one on a major Power Play. With about a minute left in the man advantage, Shane Taddia tipped a shot from the top of the umbrella past the goalie. The game would head to the third tied at one.

Thayer took control of the game in the final frame. With seven and a half minutes remaining, Kevin Delay jumped on a net-front rebound and lifted it over the outstretched goalies glove for the 2-1 lead. Just over three minutes later, Thayer would add to their lead when Brady Kudrick would win a battle inside the offensive blueline, cut in on the goalie and snap the puck off the post and in.

Thayer was able to hold off any late chances from the visitors and walk away with a solid 3-1 win.
