ISL Rivals Skate to 1-1 Tie

In an early season matchup between two ISL Keller schools Belmont Hill and Nobles & Greenough skated to a 1-1 tie with both teams goalies taking over the game.

It was 0-0 after the first period despite both teams exchanging chances but it was the outstanding performance by Sam Scopa of Belmont Hill and Thatcher Bernstein of Nobles; two young talented netminders who kept the game scoreless.

It was until the second period when Aidan Lyons made a rush up through the neutral zone where he faked a defender forehand and backhand, pulled up and fired a rocket top corner just under the bar from the high slot. Nobles then went on the attack and forced their will on a Belmont Hill that was forced to ice the puck several times just to catch a quick breather. It was here where Scopa really kept the team in the game and one play in particular where he tipped a shot out of the rink to allow his team to get a line change; a subtle play but highly important at that moment in the game.

The teams headed into the final period with Nobles with the lead and the momentum but Belmont Hill wasn’t going away. They came out in the third with a spark and got pucks behind the Nobles defense and worked the puck down low. Midway through the period junior forward Dane Carter got the puck off an offensive zone cycle and took it across the high slot and ripped a snap shot top corner on Thatcher Bernstien to bring the score to 1-1. Belmont Hill stayed on the attack and had several chances both from Fisher and Stiga but Bernstein stood tall and kept the puck out of the net.

The game went into overtime 1-1 and like most of the game the action was back and forth and both teams had chances to score but couldn’t and it ended in a tie.
