Brunswick beats Taft

Brunswick School 6, Taft School 2

Taft traveled to Greenwich, CT to take on the Brunswick school in an early Wednesday afternoon match-up. Brunswick continued their winning ways by jumping on Taft very early in the game as they sprung to an early 3-0 lead. Brunswick kept their lead throughout the entire game as they were able to dictate the pace of the game. Taft attempted a late rally by scoring two late goals but Brunswick was able to finish the job comfortably. Brunswick came out flying in the first period as they scored were able to get up 3-0 within the first 10 minutes of the period. Henry Foster was able to get the scoring started for Brunswick as he had an easy tap in goal set up by Connor Welsh. Welsh was able to use his speed to win a loose puck foot race off a broken play, retrieved the puck showed patience and found Welsh back door. Minutes later Andon Cerbone showcased his speed as he was able to poke a puck by the Taft defensemen to spring a 2 on 1 with linemate Matt Mcgroarty. Andon sauced a pass across to Matt Mcgroarty and while the puck was in mid-air Mcgroarty knocked it into the back of the net. Half way through the period defensemen Jude Bower was able to fire a puck through traffic that found the back of net giving Brunswick a 3-0 heading into the intermission. The Second Period Taft adjusted their game as they clogged the middle of the ice to prevent Brunswick from beating them with their team speed. The period’s lone goal came off of Beanie Richter’s stick as he was able to gather the puck off the half wall, take his ice and beat the Taft goaltender short side high. Brunswick’s team speed wore down the bigger Taft team and by the Third period Brunswick was still controlling the play. Mike Salandra who had an excellent all-around game was rewarded for his efforts with a nice mid-high tip goal that extended Brunswick’s lead to 5. Brunswick’s Connor Sullivan was able to add Brunswick’s 6 th goal as he blasted a point shot through traffic. Taft received two late third period goals from Henry Molson and Thomas Ricciardelli both beat Brunswick’s goaltender Alexander Rohlf high.

Three Stars:
1- Matt McGroarty
2- Beanie Richter
3- Mike Salandra

Neutral Zone Notes
Brunswick although one of the younger teams in New England Prep school hockey is proving to be one of the early contenders. Their young 04’s play with a ton of pace and energy. Adding in older forwards like Mcgroarty and Salandra this team can put up multiple goals every night. Their defensive core led by Jude Brower and Henry Dale are all very long and can skate. Look for Brunswick to continue to improve as the season progresses. Taft is an older heavier team that really struggled vs the faster Brunswick team. Taft was at it’s best when they were using their size for puck possession and playing physical. Taft has enough skill, grit and experience to be a threat the second half of the season.
