Brewster Academy at Andover Academy

Brewster Academy 1 at Andover 6, December 14, 2019

Andover, MA- Andover’s home crowd was lively as they took on a Brewster team that appeared to be a little short-handed tonight. Andover imposed it’s will early on against Brewster as they were able to score three first period goals. The second period Brewster came out swinging but Andover’s speed and depth were too much for Brewster as Andover was able to produce another three-goal outbreak. The third period Andover looked like they were trying to run out the clock, Brewster added a third period goal but the game ended 6-1 in favor of Andover.

The Andover squad feeding off the home crowd was able to play with a ton of energy right off the bat.  Andover junior forward Chris Hocevar came out flying as he was able to net two first period goals one with a well-placed back hand and the other a nice short side snip as he shot in stride. Brewster came back firing and banging bodies but it was Andover that went into the break-up 3-0.

Brewster continued to fight back especially early in the second period as they were able to get power play opportunities but were unable to capitalize. Andover’s Andrew Malatesta extended his teams lead after a turnover led to a high percentage scoring chance where he placed his shot right over Brewster goaltenders Sam Livecchi’s shoulder. Andover continued to pour it on as Andover Senior Ray Galasso tallied two goals too extend his teams lead to 6-0 heading into the third.

Andover ran out the clock in the third as they were able to put the defensive clamps down as they walked away with the victory. Box Score.

Three Stars

  1. Chris Hocevar– Andover F
  2. Ray Galasso- Andover D
  3. Colin Dineen- Andover F

Neutral Zone NotesAndover was clearly the better team tonight as they were able to impose their will from the start of the game.  Chris Hocevar is a speedy forward who has the ability to beat any defender to the edge and showed off a nice scoring touch. Hocevar if he continues to play with pace and energy will be a breakout player this year for Andover. Veteran Ray Galasso had himself a good night offensively from the back end scoring two and adding two assists. He has a good first step as he can get involved in the rush quickly, has good offensive instincts and does a nice job of picking his spots to get involved from the point. Andrew Malatesta is a nice two way forward who should continue to produce as he has a nice release on his shot. Brewster looks like they are in for a tough year as they lack the depth to compete with the top teams in New England. Although, they were short handed tonight they still fought hard against a team that just kept coming at them. Sophomore Drew Naylor was a bright spot for Brewster as he is young with a good-sized frame and is not afraid to throw his body around. PG Luke Lynn does his best to play in transition as he has the ability to get behind defenders but needs to be harder on pucks as he was easily knocked off. Senior Grant Sikich had a nice game in the net front as he is not afraid to take a hit to make a play but was not able to get on the score sheet.
