Lawrence Academy Romps Belmont Hill

Belmont Hill at Lawrence Academy; 12/14/19- 3:25 PM; Grant Rink- Groton, MA

Groton, MA- Belmont Hill traveled to Lawrence Academy today for the first ISL Keller matchup of the season. Lawrence comes into the contest, 2-0 overall and 1-0 in ISL play. Belmont comes in 0-2 losing to both Nobles and Governors Academy. Starting in net for LA, ’01 SR Brandon Milberg and for Belmont Hill Junior Charlie Lambert

Lawrence got off a hot start right away, less than five minutes into the game, ’02 JR Damien Carfagana found Providence commit Riley Duran entering the offensive zone who found UNH Commit David Sacco driving the net for a goal to open up the scoring, 1-0 LA. Minutes later, Duran again found ’02 JR Kyle Furey creeping in off the LA blue line and who beat Lambert to make it 2-0. With 5 minutes to play in the period, Lawrence capitalized on the power play, Providence commit Blake Humphrey slid a back door pass to Duran for a finish to make it 3-0. End of 1, 3-0 LA.

In the second period, Belmont Hill swapped goalies and put ’02 JR Michael Hauswirth in between the pipes. Lawrence continued on the attack, ’01 James Broderick finished for his first of the year to make it 4-0. With about 10 minutes to play, LA new comer, Providence commit, Cole Teleki found Johnny Riggins back door for a tap in goal to make it 5-0. LA continued, Sacco got his second of the night to make it 6-0 at the end of the second.

In the third period, Belmont Hill was able to get on the board, ’04 Freshmen James Fisher drove the net and got a shot off for a rebound and ’02 Junior Brendan Murphy put home a rebound to make it 6-1. The very next shift, James Broderick got on the board again to make it 7-1. As the period started to wind down, Colgate commit, ’02 Ryan McGuire beat Milberg on a rush through a screen to make it 7-2. With under 2 minutes to go, Riggins got his second of the night, tucking it under the crossbar to give LA an 8-2 lead and that resulted in the final score. 8-2 LA.

NZ Notes: Lawrence looks to be really strong this year, Duran, Sacco, Humphrey and Connor Lovett bring a lot of offensive punch upfront. Furey, Carfagna, Teleki and Matt Connor are strong on the back end. Mack Oliphant, ’02 new comer for LA brings a good presence. SR Goalie, Brandon Milberg will be strong in net. Belmont Hill has their work cut out for them this year. Ryan McGuire will have to lead the charge up front. Princeton commit Tyler Rubin and Brendan Murphy will be the backbone of the D-core for BH.

LA gets back on the ice Thursday vs Cushing in the Lawrence/Groton Christmas tournament. Belmont Hill is back in action at the Lawrenceville Tournament.
