Improved Thayer and Governor’s Play a Tight One

Byfield, MA- The first ISL Keller Matchup between Thayer and Governors Academy. Staring in goal for Thayer, ‘02 Senior Gavin Fitzpatrick and for Governors ‘02 Junior, Tristian Mecenes

In the first, Governors got off to a quick start, ‘00 Senior Forward, Sean Brown found the back of the net about five minutes into the game. Umass Lowell Commit, Owen Fowler did the dirty work below the dots and found Brown in front to put GA up 1-0. Towards the end of the second, Thayer answered with a goal from ‘03 Matt SullivanAssists on the play coming from sophomore BC High transfer Declan Loughnane and Griffin LincolnAt the end of one, game is all square at 1-1.

Minutes into the second period, Providence commit Joseph Kramer put Thayer up 2-1. Three shifts later, Fowler gets back on the score sheet and jams home the puck in front of the net past Fitzpatrick to knot the game up at 2-2. Thayer runs into some penalty troubles and give

Governors life to strike.  On the 5v4, Sean Brown finds Fowler again for a back door one- timer and GA leads 3-2 heading into the second intermission. 

In the third, Thayer finds a way to get back on the board right away, Boston University commit, ‘03 Nick Roukanakis picks up the puck at center ice for a breakaway and beats Mecenes to tie it all up at 3-3. The play was back and forth with chances going both ways until Thayer was able to strike again. The other brother and Providence commit, Peter Kramer found the back of the net to put Thayer up 4-3, which resulted in the final score and game winning goal.

NZ Notes: Both Thayer and Governors are much improved from last season and can be serious contenders to win the ISL Keller division this season. Transfer goalie, Tristian Mecenes will be a major factor in the net this winter for GA. ‘03 Massimo Gentile brings skill and ability to the Governor’s lineup. ‘03 Brendan Fitzgerald logs a lot of minutes on the back end as well. For Thayer, ‘03 Sophomore transfer, Jackson Stuzynski looked good, solid left shot D. 2004 CJ Foley plays a smart simple game on the back end. ‘04 Transfer from BB&N Shane Taddia saw top 6 minutes.
