Lawrence Defeats Governors 6-1: Jan 23, 2019

Byfield, MA – Tonight was the first in-league ISL Keller matchup between Lawrence Academy and Governors Academy. They squared off once a few weeks back at the EG Watkins tournament. Starting in goal for LA was senior Ian Graiff (Newfield, NJ) and for Governors it was David Palandjian (Concord, MA).

Lawrence got the scoring started early with a goal from Drew Bavaro (Bradenton, FL) on a shot from the blue line, with Conor Lovett (Franklin, MA) and Kyle Furey (Marblehead, MA) getting the assists. Just a few shifts later, Holt Oliphant (Northbrook, IL) put one upstairs on Palandjian, with Lovett getting his second point of the night and John Riggins (Bathpage, NY) with the secondary. Closing out the first period scoring was PC commit Tyler Young (Lancaster, MA) beating the goalie top shelf and helping on the play was Ethan Bastien (Natick, MA) and Sam Colangelo (Stoneham, MA). End of 1, 3-0 LA.

At the start of the second period, UNH commit David Sacco (Middleton, MA) found the back of the net. Young and Bavaro adding in points on the play. Governors, however, was able to get one back to shorten the lead to 4-1, Owen Fowler (Tewksbury, MA) found Sean Brown (Seabrook, NH) in the high slot to put Govs on the board. Lawrence was able to respond in a timely fashion though, Connor Lovett found the scoresheet again. Great puck movement entering the offensive zone resulted in Lovett getting free in the high slot for his third point on the night. End of two periods, 5-1 LA.

As the third started, LA put another one on the scoreboard during the first shift. Colangelo drove hard to the net and finished it off beating Palandjian. Connor Sweeney (North Andover, MA) and Bastien getting the assists. Final score, 6-1 LA.

NZ’s Take: Lawrence was clicking in all aspects tonight offensively. Connor Lovett posted a 1-2-3, Holt Oliphant chimed in with 1-1-2, John Riggins added 0-2-2, Tyler Young tallied 1-1-2, and Drew Bavaro also had 1-1-2. LA heads down to Tabor for another big ISL matchup Friday night and then head back home Saturday vs Dexter. Governors will look to get back on track this weekend with a home game vs BB&N Friday then they head to Brooks on Saturday afternoon.
