PHL Scrimmage Day Recap

Wellesley, MA: After several practices, the PHL teams each played a scrimmage game to see where the teams and players stand as they head towards the official start of the 20 game schedule weekend after next.

Both games were close and the players worked. One of the strengths of the selective league is that older and younger players are mixed together. A 2006 and a 2001 scored goals. The plan is to prepare them for next season but ultimately NCAA hockey. We played three 20 minute periods. NCAA rules are in place as teams dressed 19 players and two goalies. Three practices a week along with online Hockey IQ learning completes the week. In full flight, players will have responsibilities on and off the ice five days a week. Its intensive intentionally and the hope is all the players improve.

This weekend all the players will be take part in our Combine Testing. There will be no games. This will give players a base line to improve upon and scouts another way to evaluate this group. Testing will be on and off ice.

Both games were tight as Team Sully Mack hung on for a 6-5 win over Team ACT in the first tilt. Ben Boren, Joe Freeman and Clarence Beltz all has two points for the winners. Box Score

In the second scrimmage, Team CCM won in OT on a Nolan Joyce goal. Team Hockey IQ pulled their goalie twice in the middle of the third period and it paid off as Teddy Stiga put two home to get IQ within one and Princeton commit Brendan Gorman tied it. It was a wild one. Nine Team CCM players picked up a point and Stiga led Hockey IQ with three points. Box Score
