Ian Moran

Director of NHL Scouting

Region: North America

Former NHL Player (555 GP) & Minor Pro Head Coach

Ian, the face of Neutral Zone, was hired in 2017 as a regional scout before being promoted to run the NHL Draft for the company in 2019.

He played four years at Belmont Hill School — where he was one of the most highly recruited prospects in the United States. He then earned a spot on Team USA in the 1991 World Junior Championships before committing to Boston College on a full scholarship. Moran was named Hockey East Rookie of the Year and was a team leader in points with the Eagles before signing with the Pittsburgh Penguins after his sophomore season.

He would go on to play 15 years of professional hockey and over 550 games in the NHL with stints in the IHL, AHL and overseas. He played for prestigious organizations such as the Anaheim Ducks, Boston Bruins, and Pittsburgh Penguins and served as a captain on many of his teams. In addition to his extensive playing career, Ian’s coached at the pro level with Evansville (SPHL) and is one of the most respected skill/development coaches in the United States.

Although he travels all over North America and Europe to scout prospects for the NHL Draft, he lives in the Greater Boston area with his wife and four children and has been featured on several podcasts and media outlets for his NHL Draft expertise including Spittin Chiclets of the renowned Barstool Sports. He also works in player development with Win Hockey Agency and the Boston Jr. Eagles youth program.
