Lenny Hofmann Joins NZ NHL

Lenny Hofmann, a longtime coach and scout based in Minnesota, has joined Neutral Zone’s new NHL platform as Head Midwest Scout for US covering Minnesota High School, USHL, NAHL and even some WHL.

“Lenny brings a wealth of experience and was the first call I made,” said Director of NZ NHL Scouting Ian Moran. “He’s coached at the NCAA and USHL level and run Central Scouting for the USHL and most recently was Director of Scouting for Green Bay Gamblers. He’s as experienced and as talented as they come in the world of scouting and I am thrilled to work with him.”

Lenny was a former Minnesota High School standout who went on to play for Dubuque in the USHL before having a 4-year career with St. Mary’s University, where he averaged a point per game throughout his career.  He started coaching after graduating and became the assistant coach at St. Scholastica for two seasons from 2008-2010. He then made the move to the USHL where he has spent the past 8 seasons as an Assistant Coach and Director of Scouting with Tri-City Storm and most recently Green Bay Gamblers.

“This is a guy who drafted future NHL picks in Casey Mittelstadt in the third round of the USHL Draft when he was under the radar and Demetrios Koumontzis out of Arizona midget hockey before he had an NCAA commit,” said Brendan Collins, Director of Scouting. “He drafted current NHL Draft prospect Brendon Brisson in the tenth round of the USHL Draft which could be one the biggest steals in the league. He has a long history of talent identification and rankings and is one of the most trusted eyes in Minnesota and in the USHL. We are very fortunate to add him to our team.”

NZ NHL is an NHL Draft scouting platform run by longtime NHLer Ian Moran. The site has background information and scouting reports on most prospects since they were 14 and 15 years old all the way through their minor hockey careers. Ian has put together a scouting staff of talented, experienced and proven scouts across the US and Canada and is still looking to fill roles in Europe.

Lenny will start immediately covering USHL and Minnesota Elite League before the MN High School season and special assignments for major tournaments and events. Ian will be traveling to Sweden this upcoming week for the U18 Five Nations Tournament.
