Neutral Zone NHL’s Ian Moran, March 25, 2023: Why an NHL draft pick? Weber has shown growth and year over year improvements. Last year while playing in U20-elit he was averaging 16:55 total time on the ice with 2:48 on the PP and 0:26 while short handed. This year he’s popped to be averaging 22:29 total ice time per game with 4:12 on the power play and 1:40 while killing. His shots on goal per game have increase from 3.3 to 5.9. and his shots on goal percentage has increased by 10% to 66% per game. He is much more involved physically as he is giving and receiving more hits per game. Weber has also dramatically increased his production from 9 points in 13 U20-elit games last year to to 37 points in 32 games this year. Why not an NHL draft pick? Yes he is not afraid to play in traffic or attack the other team’s house but he is still only 5″9″ and 154lbs while winning only 44% of his 50/50 puck battles. That usually doesn’t translate to success in the North American professional game.

Neutral Zone NHL. July 4, 2022: Why an NHL draft pick? He performed well at the U18 WJC by scoring three goals in four games. He is very shifty in 1on1 situations and has excellent lateral mobility. He understands how to manipulate defender’s gaps into his favor through subtle changes of pace. Why not an NHL draft pick? He is 5’9″ 154 pounds and he is not a burner. In overall age-appropriate international competition, he has 15 points in 31 games.
