NCAA (D-II/III): Suffolk Commits a 3-star Forward for 2023

In this week’s Division II/III notebook, Suffolk added a 3-star forward from Connecticut for next season.

Suffolk made big investments into its program this summer, including hiring Shawn McEachern as the program’s first full-time head coach. McEachern brought on a new staff, including fellow former NHL’er Mike Morrison as the team’s goaltending coach.

McEachern spent a decade at the Rivers School. While there, the program won six Eberhart Championships and made the New England Tournament eight times and went to the Elite 8 twice. McEachern was also a former assistant coach at UMass Lowell, Northeastern, and Salem State.

’03 (F) Daniel McKiernan (★★★) to Suffolk for 2023

A native of Connecticut, McKiernan played the last two seasons at Williston Northhampton School. Last season he had 29 points (14g, 15a) in 24 games while also playing split season for the Mid Fairfield Rangers 18U AAA team. Prior to playing prep hockey he played at Joel Barlow High School in Connecticut. In his sophomore season he had 72 points (47g, 25a) in just 19 games.

This season, McKiernan has 17 points (7g, 10a) in 15 games for the New Hampshire Avalanche in the EHL.

NZ Scouts (Ivy Shootout): “He played a tough game and he played it in every inch of the ice. He went to the net hard, with a prepared stick on the ice and scored a few goals that way. He stopped on pucks and was always a good receiver for passes. He is listed at 5’10” but played bigger as he is strong and has a deceptive reach. He looked silky in space and even caught a bad stretch pass by redirecting it between his legs at top speed. He separated with ease and had some breakaway chances as a result. He used his core and leverage to win wall battles and emerge with the puck and a plan.”
