’05 (F) Adam Cavallin (★★★½) commits to the Kingston Fronteacs (OHL)

Cavallin finished last season with 13 points (8g-5a) in 44 games for the Kemptville 73’s in the CCHL. In 2019-20 he was nearly a point-per-game player for the Upper Canada Cyclones (U15 AAA), when he totaled 26 points (17g-9a) in 29 games.

In 57 games as a U14 and U15 player with Upper Canada, Cavallin totaled 41 goals.

NZ Scouts (Kemptville vs. Cornwall): “Cavallin is an 05’ that played well beyond his years as he is confident in everything he does. Adam started the scoring for Kemptville, as he dashed up ice out of the zone, steaking along the wall, then cutting towards the middle to catch a stretch pass just inside the far blue line, beat the defensemen with speed and made a slick move at the net front to slip it passed the goaltender. When he was the weak side winger on a breakout, he loved to jump out of the zone and stretch the defensemen to at least create space for easy zone exits or catch a pass to start a rush. He backchecks just as hard as he forechecks and competes for pucks.”

’06 (F) Liam Storch (★★★★) commits to Saginaw Spirit (OHL)

Storch is from Wisconsin and played last season for Little Caesars 15U AAA team. In 11 games, he totaled four goals and three assists. Throughout his youth career, Storch has also played for the Detroit Jr. Wings (U15), Belle Tire (13U) and he took part in USA Hockey’s Select 15 Festival in 2021.

NZ Scouts (EP Invite): “Liam is a smaller right-shot forward that played this past season for Little Ceasars in Detroit. He was strong here this weekend and had two assists in the three games played. He uses his speed well and beats defenders to the perimeter. He gains the edge quickly and uses his balance and edges to cut towards the net and attack the goal. He created a goal with his feet and made a nice read from low-to-high to get it to a teammate in the slot. He is shifty and can make defenders miss in space. He has quick hands and cuts to open areas well.”

’06 (F) Ethan Toms (★★★★¼) commits to the Oshawa Generals (OHL)

Toms was drafted by the Generals in the fourth round (No. 67 overall) in 2022 OHL Draft. We had Toms ranked as the No. 39 overall prospect headed into the draft.

Last season Toms appeared in 32 games for the Quinte Red Devils U16 AAA team and he finished with 19 goals and 19 assists for 38 points.

NZ Scouts (U16 OMHA Championship): “Toms is likely the best pure goal scorer in the OMHA; he’s got pinpoint accuracy, a quick release, high velocity with little windup and can read a goalie and know where to go with the puck. His consistent play at the OMHAs this weekend have him as a candidate to move up in our year end rankings. He led the tournament in scoring and created chances on most shifts. He scored on loose pucks, he scored on both the wrister and snap shot on the rush and scored on catch and shoot. What separates him from other goalscorers is that most of his goals come even strength so he’s not just a power play expert but he can create in all situations. While his scoring gets the most attention, his passing isn’t too far behind.”

’06 (F) Braydon Bruce (★★★¾) commits to the Sudbury Wolves (OHL)

Bruce has tremendous size; he’s already 6-foot-4 and 170 pounds and he’s only 16 years old. In 27 games last season for the Markham Majors U16 team he posted two goals and eight assists for 10 points. He also had a pair of points for D-Generation X at the Elite Hockey Prep camp. This upcoming season he’s slated to play for St. Andrew’s College.

We had Bruce ranked No. 102 in our 2022 OHL Draft Rankings.

NZ Scouts (World Hockey Trophy): “Standing at 6’4, he is a tower on the back end and lets the opposition know that each shift. He wins puck battles and utilizes his long reach to his advantage. Brydon doesn’t over commit to plays and can keep attackers in front of him in 1 on 1 situations. Bruce finishes his checks and separates players from pucks then moves the puck up ice quickly.”

’05 (G) Zachary Bowen (NR) commits to the London Knights (OHL)

Due to COVID and the lack of games over the last two seasons, the ’05 class in Canada has suffered from less viewings than we would typically have on these players at this point in their career. But, when we have seen Bowen he has impressed.

Last season he appeared in 19 games for the Embrun Panthers (EOJHL) and posted a 2.15 GAA and .930 save percentage. That earned him a call up to the CCHL and the Ottawa Jr. Senators. In seven games, he posted a 1.95 GAA and .933 save percentage and was terrific in the one playoff game he played for the Jr. Sens.
