NCAA: BU Commits Top ’06 Macklin Celebrini

Macklin Celebrini (★★★★¾), a potential top pick for the 2024 NHL Draft, has committed to Boston University.

Celebrini, a Vancouver native, announced his commitment via Instagram.

“Elite player,” NZ scouts said after the MN Elite League this past December. “Macklin is a 2006 birth year but may have been the best player here all weekend. He is a fluid skater and gets up to speed quickly. He has a long stride and body that will be able to fill out as he gets older. He scored at least four goals in our viewings. Received passes and snapped pucks by the goalie, or scored on the line rush after walking a defender. He is around the puck and net and does not take shifts off. He plays tough on the puck and competes in all three zones.”

Celebrini had eye-popping numbers with Shattuck’s 18U team last season. In 52 games he scored 50 goals and added 67 assists for 117 points. That came on the heels of a monster season in 2020-21 on the 14U team where he totaled 141 points (51g, 90a) in 50 games. He’s going to suit up for the Chicago Steel in the USHL next season.

NZ Scouts: “Macklin has clean handles and quick hands, tremendous speed and patience with the puck. He made the game look easy at times and dominated the competition at moments.  He gets his head up quickly and can make the pass to feed the back door. He can handle the puck at full speed and this seemed to be the strongest aspect of his game: using his superior speed to blow by opponents.”
