One of the top recruits in the nation has reopened his recruitment. According to The Rink Live, Cruz Lucius has decommitted from Minnesota.
Minnesota currently has the No. 1 ranked recruiting class in our 2022 NCAA Class Rankings and Lucius is one of the top recruits in that class. Lucius is a 4.75-star rated recruit along with Logan Cooley.
Lucius is from Grant, Minn. He played for the U.S. NTDP this season and totaled 16 goals and 15 assists for 31 points in 38 games. This past week at the U-18 World Championships, Lucius had seven points (2g, 5a) in six games and helped lead Team USA to the finals.
Neutral Zone has Lucius ranked as the No. 4 overall player in his age group (2004-born). He’s rated by several scouting services to be a second or third-round selection in the upcoming 2022 NHL Entry Draft.
Lucius’ decommitment comes on the heels of his brother, Chaz Lucius, leaving Minnesota last week after his freshman year to sign an entry-level contract with the Winnipeg Jets.
“Very sneaky and deceptive player,” said NZ scouts. “At times to me, he looks like hes out of the play and not involved until he gets the puck and makes about four other players miss. During his games, he consistently will slip the puck under guys but also has the ability to stickhandle outside of his comfortable space. He’ll flip pucks over defenders sticks and put it between his legs, basically he’s willing to try anything to get to the net. Because if he has a grade A chance, most of the time for Lucuis, it’s going in.”
