Rassey Will Take Over Coaching Omaha Lancers

It’s been a tumultuous year for the USHL’s Omaha Lancers, but it finally seems like stability is returning to the franchise.

Earlier this month, the Lancers named former Harvard assistant coach and Detroit Red Wings scout, Rob Rassey, as their new general manager. Now, Rassey is set to take over behind the bench, sources told Neutral Zone.

Lancer players were informed on Thursday that Rassey will take over for Gary Graham, who was appointed as interim head coach after Chad Cassidy left the team when he was reportedly fired by former team president David DeLuca.

Prior to taking the job with Omaha, Rassey was the director for TPH Hockey in Chicago. He coached at Harvard for six years and spent two years with the Red Wings.

“Rob is the perfect fit for our organization at this time,” said Mike Picozzi, majority owner of the Omaha Lancers, when Rassey was hired as GM. “Rob’s high-end talents and experience in the NHL, USHL and college ranks will elevate our hockey program and take it to the next level. His personal characteristics including his players-first mentality, positive energy and work ethic are exactly what we were looking for in our general manager.”

One source said Rassey would begin as head coach on Monday.
