Minnesota HS Sections, Academy of Holy Angels vs Blake Bears

#5 Blake Bears skates to a win over #4 Academy of Holy Angels Stars 5-1 in the 6AA Quarterfinals.

Neutral Zone was in attendance for the game between home team Academy of Holy Angels vs the Blake Bears in the 6AA quarterfinals at Richfield ice arena. The first period was fast paced with both teams winning their share of races to the puck. It was a back and forth affair until William Matzke #27 (F, R, 5’10”, 160, Blake HS, 07/10/2003) blocked a shot from the point and was off to the races for a goal. 

Shots of the first period were AHA 7, Blake 10.

The second period the Blake Bears shifted into high gear. They pushed the pace of the second period and were rewarded with 3 goals in the 2nd. Leading the way for the Blake Bears was Carter Krenke #16 (F, R, 6’5″, 183, Blake HS, 09/22/2004). The high flying forward made his presence known all night and was tough to stop. He was rewarded by scoring two goals in the second period. Rounding out the scoring for the second period was 2006 born freshman defender Carson Clark #25 (D, L, 6’0″, 168, Blake HS, 07/15/2006) scoring on the power play. He played very well in his end too as he was able to keep the AHA Stars at bay all night.

The AHA Stars Nik Johnson #16 (F, L, 5’9″, 165, Academy of the Holy Angels, 12/20/2003) is speedy center and was on the puck all game. He also scored the only Holy Angels goal on the power play assisted by freshman Henry Lechner #6 (F, R, 6’2″, 184, Academy of the Holy Angels, 11/03/2006) and Jacob Margarit #14 (D, R, 5’10”, 166, Academy of the Holy Angels, 02/09/2005)

After two periods shot total AHA 17 and Blake 21.

The third period was a tough gritty period as AHA Stars tried to close the scoring gap but the Blake Bears were not going to allow the Stars to come back as the Bears put up 21 shots in the third period. They also added one last goal from Eli Daniel #4 (F, R, 6’1″, 190, Blake HS, 01/01/2003) to end the game 5-1 in favor of the Blake Bears. Eli was also a force tonight adding two assists along with his goal. Total shots for the game AHA 22 and Blake Bears 42.

Blake Bears advance to play Benilde-St. Margaret’s on Sat the 26th @ 3pm at the Bloomington Ice Garden.
