NCAA: Boston College adds a Top 2005

(‘05) William Vote (F) commits to Boston College for 2023

Vote is headed off to the U.S. NTDP this upcoming season. The Arlington, Mass. native played for the Boston Jr. Eagles for the last three seasons and was set to play at Dexter last season before the season was canceled due to COVID-19.

NZ has Vote ranked as the No. 13 2005-born prospect nationally.

NZ Scouts: “Vote is a highly skilled, puck possession forward with great poise and hockey IQ. While his ability to dangle defenders and make them look silly at times gets the most attention; it’s his hockey sense, creativity and vision that separate him from the pack. He’s very smooth, he’s polished with the puck, he knows how to read pressure and find open ice and makes tape to tape passes with touch. His cerebral style and crafty stick make him difficult to defend against in open ice because he’s as lethal a passer as he is a shooter and puck handler. He puts defenders on their heels with his speed in the neutral zone, he can change speed and change direction to get ice and his head is always up surveying the ice to make plays.”

(‘03) Evan Werner (F) commits to Colorado College for 2022

Werner is a nice get for the new CC staff. The Texas native will make a move to the USHL this season and join the Youngstown Phantoms. Last season, he scored 21 goals in 40 games for New Jersey in the NAHL and finished with 36 points.

The 18-year-old has been a goalscorer at every level. He had 28 goals in 48 games with Little Caesars as a 16U player two years ago. When he was a 15U player with Little Caesars he had 30 goals in 73 games. Werner was named NAHL All-Rookie last season.

NZ Scouts: “Small forward who is able to find himself in really good scoring areas on the ice. With the cage and his size, he plays a raw game that sometimes shows his age. Skilled and likes to pull moves that are high-risk high reward. For his goal, opened up for a one-timer on a two-on-one and buried a pass off pad play.”

(‘05) William Whitelaw (F) commits to Wisconsin for 2023

Whitelaw is a Minnesota native who played for Shattuck St. Mary’s the last two seasons. Last year as an 18U, he finished with 33 points (14g-19a) in 36 games. As a 14U player in 2019-20, he scored 31 goals and added 54 assists for a whopping 85 points in 58 games.

NZ had Whitelaw ranked as the No. 8 overall 2005-born prospect in the nation.

NZ’s Ian Moran: “I’m not going to lie… I love how this kid plays. He’s entertaining on the offensive side and dependable on the other side. I spent time on the ice with him last summer in Exeter, NH and I was very impressed with how hard he competed away from the puck. Straight lines. Stops and starts. Really active stick that he used to get on every thing. At the U18 Nationals a few weeks ago Shattuck was protecting a one goal lead with about one minute left in the game. They had a defensive zone face-off and wouldn’t you know the Shattuck coaching staff trusted William enough to take that draw and be the quarterback of the situation. That says a lot to me about how he prepares for games.”

(‘04) Lucas Szyszka (G) commits to Maine for 2023

Maine adds a future goaltender in the Illinois native. Szyszka is a product of the Chicago Mission program. It appears that he’s headed to play for the Des Moine Buccaneers this upcoming season.

NZ Scouts: “ Key saves at key times. Strong rebound control and good saves down low. Came up large on a couple of second and third chance situations.”
