Jerry Keefe has been named the new head coach at Northeastern, while current head coach Jim Madigan will take over as the school’s new athletic director.
The move will be announced as early as today and was preceded by former Northeastern AD Jeff Konya accepting the job at San Jose State last week.
Madigan has been at the helm of the Northeastern program since 2011 when he took over for Greg Cronin. Keefe, a Providence alum, joined his coaching staff the same season, and he was elevated to associate head coach in 2014. Keefe has also twice coached with Team USA at the World Juniors (2018-19, 2019-20).
Alaska Anchorage has to raise $800,000 by August 31 to save its hockey program. Yesterday, head coach Matt Curley announced that he was resigning from the team.
“This was a very difficult decision for me and my family because we believe in Seawolf hockey’s future,” Curley said. “It’s been a privilege to coach such fine young men, as well as live in the Anchorage community. The outpouring of recent financial support for the team has been great to see, and I wish the program nothing but the very best.”
UAA did not take part in the 2020-21 season due to COVID and the program lost all of its players to transfers after it was announced last season that the program was going to be folded.
UAA said that it will not seek a new head coach unless the fundraising goal ($3 million) is met.
Curley, it was later revealed, landed as the new head coach for Des Moines in the USHL, replacing Peter Mannino, who joined Kris Mayotte’s staff at Colorado College.
