Latest NCAA Transfer Portal Commitments Include Miami Captain to Bentley

Bentley landed a Miami captain Phil Knies out of the transfer portal on Tuesday. Knies should be a key piece for the Falcons this season. In 126 games at Miami Knies scored 23 goals and added 26 assists; he had 20 points (including 11 goals) as a freshman in the NCHC four years ago.

Western Michigan goalie Austin Cain is headed to Providence for a fifth year. Cain appeared in 15 games this season and posted a 4.04 GAA and .870 save percentage. Cain will likely backup Jaxson Stauber after the Friars lost Gabe Mollott-Hill and Anton Martinsson to transfers this spring.

The latest transfer portal additions include most of the Alabama-Huntsville roster after the program announced last week that the program was going to be suspended until it could find a conference partner.

The more notable names include freshman Tyrone Bronte, who had 13 points in 22 games as a rookie and had 48 points in 46 games as a captain in the NAHL during the 2019-20 season. UAH’s second-leading scorer was Bauer Neudecker, who had 12 points in 22 games. Bronte committed to Michigan Tech out of the portal yesterday.

The only new addition to the portal is Mercyhurst forward Khristian Bahn.

Merrimack freshman forward Conor Lovett has entered the transfer portal. According to a report in The New England Hockey Journal, Lovett was asked not to return due to an “on-campus incident.”

Lovett had a fine freshman season, scoring three goals and adding two assists but had carved out a role for the Warriors despite jumping into college hockey fresh out of Lawrence Academy. When he committed to Merrimack, he was being pursued by other Hockey East schools.

Elsewhere, Colorado College added Boston College forward Danny Weight out of the portal. Weight – yes, he’s Doug Weight’s son – appeared in 19 games for the Eagles this past season and finished with one goal and one assist. In 2019-20 he had 60 points in 58 games for Penticton in the BCHL.
