NCAA: Northeastern adds Bentley’s Novak out of the portal, Army grabs a D

Northeastern commits (F) Jakov Novak from Bentley out of the transfer portal

Jakov Novak, a 6-foot-3 forward from whose rights are owned by the Ottawa Senators, announced on Tuesday that he’s transferring to Northeastern. Novak was in the transfer portal after three seasons at Bentley, where he led the team in scoring this past season.

Novak finished the season with 7 goals and 10 assists in 15 games. He appeared in 87 career games for the Falcons and totaled 30 goals and 32 assists.

Novak is entering his senior season and technically has two years of eligibility remaining due to the NCAA granting players a fifth season. Novak was drafted by Ottawa in 2018 which means his draft rights expire in 2022, so it’s likely the Senators will push to sign him after one year at Northeastern, or Novak could become an unrestricted free agent next summer.

2000 (D) Andrew Garby commits to Army for 2021

Garby should bring some offensive punch to Army’s blue line. He appeared in 33 games for Fairbanks (NAHL) this season and has 6 goals and 11 assists. He is a veteran of 128 NAHL games — all with Fairbanks — and has 9 goals and 37 assists for 46 points.

Garby came up through the Michigan scene — he’s from Canton, Mich. — and played 13U, 14U, and 16U AAA hockey with Victory Honda.
