Decision on BCHL season delayed until next week

The BCHL had originally set a deadline of this past Wednesday to determine what will happen for the 2020-21 season. But, the league announced today that the owners have pushed a vote on the status of the season to early next week, as league officials continue to negotiate and have conversations with the provincial government.

The BCHL had submitted a plan, but it was in the hands of Dr. Bonnie Henry, the provincial health officer.

According to reports, the BCHL proposal involved three pods of three teams and two pods of four teams.

The WHL received approval for its B.C. division earlier this week. The BCHL had more hurdles to get over, because it was dealing with more health departments.

Additionally, the BCHL and WHL both asked for $9.5 million in provincial aid due to not having fans in the stands this season.

“I hopeful we’ll have more to say about that in the days ahead,” said B.C. premiere Joh Horgan in a virtual news conference.
