FREE: Player Movement in the Q Ahead of Season Restart

Player movement is alive and well in the QMJHL despite so few games being played.

The Shawinigan Cataractes announced on Wednesday that they had acquired forward Jordan Briere on waivers along with 2002-born forward Maximilien Ledoux.

Briere is a 2001-born center who had five points in 13 games with Val-d’Or Foreurs this season. Last season he appeared in 61 games for the Victoriaville Tigres and Baie-Comeau Drakkar, scoring 16 points.

“A good-sized, athletic forward with a power and skill game,” NZ scouts said. “He’s a gifted skater with speed on the rush and was consistently making plays for his team.”

Ledoux is a good-sized center who began the year with Blainville-Boisbriand. He appeared in 41 games last year and posted two goals and eight assists.

“He uses his size and speed to his advantage,” said our scouts, “he carried pucks in deep and was tough to contain on the rush. He scored a highlight reel goal where he beat two defenders wide then cut in around the faceoff dot and scored in tight on the goalie. He is a bit under the radar because of the team he plays on and not being a feature guy.”

Meanwhile, defenseman Brandon Casey, a 2002, was selected on waivers by Saint John. Casey has appeared in 42 QMJHL games over his career and also played at Newbridge Academy in the USPHL.

The QMJHL is set to return this weekend, with some teams bubbled in select locations.
