FREE READ: Northern Michigan Adds Transfer from Alaska Anchorage

Northern Michigan will add defenseman Tyrell Boucher for the second semester of this season. Boucher was set to be a freshman at Alaska Anchorage this past season but the Seawolves announced that they would not play this season due to COVID.

Additionally, this was to be Anchorage’s last year as a program and it’s likely that the team has played its final game as a Division I team.

Boucher is from Grande Prairie, Alberta. He appeared in 58 games for the Cowichan Valley Capitals last season and scored six goals and added 31 assists for the BCHL franchise. Boucher’s 37 points had him ranked No. 7 in the league last season in scoring by a defenseman.

“I think I am a two-way defenseman who skates well and has good vision,” Boucher said. “I think I always make a good first pass and I can find lanes to the net from the point. I’m not the most physical guy, but I always have a good body position and rarely get beat 1-on-1.”

Prior to joining the Capitals last season, Boucher played three seasons for the Grande Prairie Storm in the AJHL; he also played AAA hockey for their youth teams at U15 and U18 and he also spent a season with the OHA Edmonton Prep team in the CSSHL U18 league.

In Neutral Zone’s 1999 National Rankings report from April of this past year, we had Boucher ranked as the No. 67 1999-born player. and the No. 23 defenseman on the list.
