RIT Reverses Course, Will Play This Season

What a whirlwind of a week for the RIT players.

RIT announced that it had reconsidered last week’s decision to cancel the men’s and women’s hockey season and will play the 2020-21 season. Sources confirmed this afternoon that Atlantic Hockey was in the process of reconfiguring its schedule to work RIT back into the mix.

RIT announced last Monday that it was canceling winter sports after the Liberty League, where RIT plays outside of men’s and women’s hockey, announced that all winter sports were canceled.

Atlantic Hockey recently submitted its return to play plan to the state of New York.

“In view of this new development, we plan to move forward with college hockey competition, contingent upon New York State consent,” said RIT President David Munson. “While we remain concerned about the increase in COVID-19, we also realize that the RIT campus will be only lightly populated from Thanksgiving through late January, providing a period where play will be safer.”
