Ivy League Announces Winter Sports are Canceled

The Ivy League announced late Thursday that all of its programs have canceled winter sports, which includes men’s and women’s hockey.

From a hockey perspective, this includes Harvard, Dartmouth, Yale, Brown, Cornell and Princeton.

The league said in a release that the decision was unanimous by the league’s presidents.

“Regrettably, the current trends regarding transmission of the COVID-19 virus and subsequent protocols that must be put in place are impeding our strong desire to return to intercollegiate athletics competition in a safe manner,” the presidents said in a statement.

This will have a domino effect across college hockey. There are now six remaining ECAC schools who are left scrambling to figure out how to proceed with a 2020-21 season. RPI’s future for this season is also in question.
