Alabama-Huntsville Secures $17 Million Donation For Hockey Program

Alabama-Huntsville has secured a $17 million donation to help secure the long-term viability of the hockey program. Remember, the program was cut in the spring, but an ambitious fundraising campaign spearheaded by two alums raised enough funds to save the program in the short-term, and this massive donation is a long-term attempt to keep the program viable.

This $17 million effort is being led by Taso Sofikitis and Sheldon Wolitski, two alums who helped organize the original campaign.

According to a release, the $1.7 million per season (the donation will be sent over a 10-year period) will be enough to cover the program’s expenses for 10 years.

UAH still doesn’t have a conference after this season, with seven WCHA teams breaking off and forming the CCHA.
