’00 F Matt Hubbarde commits to Dartmouth for 2021
Hubbarde is an Ontario commitment for the new Dartmouth staff. Last season Hubbarde made his debut in the BCHL and scored 10 goals and 16 assists in 35 games for the Langley Rivermen. Hubbarde is slated to return to Langley for this upcoming season.
Prior to heading West, Hubbarde played two seasons in the OJHL for the North York Rangers and the Markham Royals.
This offseason, our scouts ranked Hubbarde No. 225 in our Top 500 NCAA Eligible 2000-Born Player Rankings.
’01 F Cole Burtch commits to Western Michigan for 2021
Burtch had a huge season for the Toronto Patriots (OJHL) last season, scoring 26 goals and adding 36 assists in 54 games. This season he’s headed to the USHL where he’ll play for the Youngstown Phantoms.
NZ scouts on Burtch: “This prospect grabbed attention for all the right reasons. He is a high energy player with quick acceleration and good speed. He is tireless on the forecheck and closes on the defensemen fast and aggressively. When in possession of the puck Cole has very good ice vision and combined with good stick skills made some great passes to his team mates setting up offensive opportunity. If a pass isn’t immediately available Cole showed some hockey IQ buying time and separation from defenders until a team mate was able to get open.”
’01 F Danny Ciccarello commits to RPI for 2021
The Engineers add a Quebec native in Ciccarello, who is headed to the BCHL for his first season in the league this season.
Ciccarello played at St. Mark’s for the last three seasons, scoring a whopping 70 points in 29 games last season on 34 goals and 36 assists.
This season he’s going to play for the Salmon Arm Silverbacks once the BCHL season begins.
We had Ciccarello ranked as our No. 57 overall uncommitted prospect (among 99’s, 00’s and 01’s)
NZ scouts on Ciccarello: “Really stood out against LA because he played a heavy game. He checks in at six feet, 190 pounds and he uses every pound to his advantage. He is strong in puck possession but even more strong in delivering big hits in open ice. He isn’t the fastest player we saw in this game, but his crossover step does give him a nice edge coming off the wing. He charges hard to retrieve loose pucks and crosses the blue line with authority when he has possession. Was the most consistent offensive threat for the Lions in this game because nobody could knock him down.”
’02 G Logan Terness commits to UConn for 2021
Mike Cavanaugh has picked up his goalie of the future.
Terness is from Burnaby and he had a breakout season for the Trail Smoke Eaters last season, appearing in 44 games and posting a .936 save percentage and a 2.36 goals-against average.
In the playoffs, Terness had a .970 save percentage.
NZ scouts on Terness: “Terness is very smooth and crisp in his crease movements, and plays with a confidence and poise far beyond his years. He has very good hands and does a good job of catching pucks out in front of him and getting whistles. Excellent hands, covers the net well with his wider frame and has elite puck tracking skills. Not overly athletic but efficient, controlled and showed great flexibility cross crease. The Burnaby native is one of those netminders that brings that swagger to the crease every game and instills that confidence in the guys in front of him. Terness has established himself as one of the top goalies in the BCHL as an ’02 birth year, making him a highly touted prospect.”
