’00 F Isaiah Fox commits to Long Island for 2021
Fox is an intriguing addition for Brett Riley’s Sharks. He had a solid season for the Maine Nordiques (NAHL) last season, posting 37 points in 50 games, and he’s exploded at the start of this year’s NAHL scoring, scoring 5 goals and adding 6 assists for 11 points in 9 games. He also brings a physical edge, accumulating 192 penalty minutes last season.
Fox is a Quebec native who played prep at the Holderness School.
“Fox played a highly skilled game this weekend and has good speed as well,” our scouts noted last month. “On multiple occasions he was relied upon to break in the power play himself and set up their offense. His goal was a great subtle play that displayed how well he sees the ice in the offensive zone. Running the half-wall on the power play, Fox attacked the dot to give himself a better scoring angle, where he put a laser on net to score. Fox has the ability to control the game at times especially with the puck on his stick in the offensive zone.”
’04 D Alex Zakrewski commits to Brown for 2023
Zakrewski hails from the home of the Buffalo Bills, Orchard Park, N.Y., where he played for the Buffalo Jr. Sabres through last season. This season he’s going to suit up for the Rochester Coalition 16U AAA team.
Last season with the Jr. Sabres 15U AAA team, he posted 5 goals and 13 assists in 58 games.
NZ scouts on Zakrewski: “Zakrzewski is a small, clever, shifty puck moving defenseman. He has quick instincts and can process the game with pace; he has good zip and touch on his passes and can carry the puck out of his end when pressured. He’s agile, can escape forecheckers and has the hands to maneuver his way around opponents. Alex lacks the size and strength to push opponents off pucks but his hockey sense and his defensive instincts get him in position to break up plays, intercept passes and has a clever defensive stick to strip pucks.”
’02 F Joe Schubert commits to Air Force for 2021
Schubert is a Wisconsin native who is playing for the New Jersey Jr. Titans (NAHL) this season. In six games to begin the year, he’s posted 3 goals and 3 assists.
Schubert previously played for St. Paul’s, scoring 37 points in 27 games last season while also playing split-season for the Cape Cod Whalers.
NZ scouts on Schubert: “Schubert had a great offensive and physical opening series weekend. He excels at driving the net on rushes, taking defenders with him, and creating more space for his teammates. His shot is heavy and hard, but at times isn’t always accurate but when on net creates issues for opposing goalies. His assist came off of a shot that went through the goalie and allowed his teammate to bury the puck into an empty net. Schubert does a good job of finishing his hits on the forecheck, but in control and doesn’t take himself out of play being too aggressive.”
