Navy Exploring Division I Hockey?

Collegiate Consulting, a firm that ran a Division I hockey feasibility study for the University of Illinois, tweeted on Wednesday that they were conducting a similar study for the U.S. Naval Academy. However, Navy told College Hockey News that it was inaccurate.

Navy has been a program that’s been rumored to be exploring D-I hockey for years. If Navy does ultimately launch a program, it’s likely that the team would compete in Atlantic Hockey, alongside the other service academies (Army and Air Force).

Navy is located in Annapolis, M.D. and the school’s club team plays at McMullen Arena, a facility that was built in 2007 and seats 1,000 fans, but reportedly has the ability to expand to around 2,500 or 3,000.

Navy does have a club team that competes at the ACHA level. That team went 16-8-0 last season and went 25-6-0 in 2018-19.
