NCAA: Harvard Lands Another ’04; Conn. College, Amherst Add Players

’04 F Cameron Johnson (Langley, BCHL) to Harvard for 2022/23

Johnson is the second 2004 commit that the Crimson have landed this week. A native of Vancouver, he’s entering his first season with the Langley Rivermen of the BCHL after attending St. George’s School in the CSSHL the last three seasons. With the Elite15 team last season, Johnson had an eye-popping 78 points in just 33 games (29 goals, 49 assists) and he also had four points (1g, 3a) in five games with the U18 Prep team, playing with that group in his 15-year-old year.

“Johnson is a smart, crafty centerman who can create a lot of chances with the puck,” said scouts. “He has a lot of speed and is really good laterally and cutting across east-to-west. In addition to that, he does a great job shooting the opposite way against his body when cutting across the ice, using the defender as a screen and fooling the goaltender. He used it a lot and it was really effective. His mobility is a real stand out feature to his game. He creates a lot of space and is difficult to defend in the offensive zone. All the more impressive considering he is a late 2004 birthday.”

’00 F Jack Luca (South Shore, NCDC) to Connecticut College for 2021

Luca brings plenty of experience to Connecticut College, spending the last two seasons with the South Shore Kings in the NCDC after a long prep career at Roxbury Latin and a brief stint in the CCHL.

Serving as an alternate captain for the Kings this season, Luca appeared in 114 prep games over five seasons, scoring 63 goals and adding 83 assists.

“He has a quick first step, a crisp accurate passer and the ability to pull away from defenders,” said scouts “Away from the puck, he hustles after every loose puck, he wins races to pucks and uses his speed and quickness to his advantage. He had solid possession time here and created more offense then it looks from the stat line.”

’01 D Max Thiessen (Northfield Mount Hermon) to Amherst College for 2021

Thiessen is with NMH this season after spending his entire youth career with the Washington Little Caps organization, playing 14U all the way up through 18U the last five seasons.

A 6-foot-1 blueliner from Washington, D.C., he appeared in 16 games last season for the 18U AAA team and had five assists.

“Thiessen is a big defenseman who seems to have improved since the last time that we saw him play,” said NZ scouts. “He had the puck on his stick a lot and loved to rush it. He was noted for going end to end and then continuing to circle the offensive zone with his head up and ready to feed the puck to his teammates. On another rush, he took it wide and then fed his teammate in the slot for a scoring chance. He also showed he can make the simple pass on the breakout and did a nice job holding the offensive blue line and playing the body deep in his end.”
