Colorado College announced on Wednesday that Hugo Blixt and Brian Hawkinson will join the CC hockey program this year as transfer students.
Blixt, a 6-foot-4 defenseman, played 47 games the past two seasons for Boston University. As a freshman in 2018-19, he appeared in 37 games, posting two assists and 27 blocked shots. During his sophomore campaign, he played in 10 games, including six Hockey East contests.
NZ had Blixt rated as a 4.25-star prospect out of the USHL before he became a Terrier.
Hawkinson, a 5-foot-10 forward, played in 60 games during his two seasons at National Collegiate Hockey Conference-rival Miami University. As a freshman, he finished second on the team in rookie scoring and tied for fifth overall with 16 points (3g,13a) in 34 games with the RedHawks. Hawkinson dished out a pair of assists in 26 games last season as a sophomore.
Hawkinson is a local, originally from Aurora and he played for the Colorado Thunderbrids program.
“Hawkinson is the type of player every coach wants on their bench,” said NZ scouts. “He’s consistently outworking his opponents all over the ice, he plays physical and hungers for the puck. He doesn’t cheat in his own zone, rather is focused and diligent defensively and never quits on the play. He’s got some growing and filling out to do which limits his production along the walls and in the corners but he still goes into the dirty areas without even the slightest hesitation. He’s capable of scoring greasy goals as he has good touch around the goal. While his role for the Storm this season is not to score goals, our scouts who have seen him play for years believe he has good offensive skills and instincts and will eventually carve our top-six role in this league before its all said and done.”
Blixt and Hawkinson join a group of 12 incoming freshmen, a recruiting class that is ranked No. 8 in our rankings for this season. Both transfers are eligible to play during the 2020-21 campaign and have two seasons of eligibility at Colorado College.
“We are excited to add these two veteran players to our team,” said CC head coach Mike Haviland said. “They are smart and play the game with a high compete level. Both are high character people that have tremendous leadership qualities.”
