St. Cloud Lands ’04 Center From Wisconsin

2004-born forward Jonah Aegerter announced on Twitter that he has committed to St. Cloud State.

Aegerter is from Janesville, Wisc. and has played for the Oakland Jr. Grizzlies last season. The 16-year-old scored 23 goals and added 52 assists in 69 games for the Jr. Grizzlies.

Aegerter is projected as a 2023 recruit for the Huskies.

“Jonah is a strong skater who uses his speed to beat defenders as he will dangle the opposition and take the puck to the net,” said NZ scouts. “He has a quick release with the ability to score goals, as he scored a goal from the slot area. He has great vision with the ability to set up his teammates for scoring opportunities. He is effective on the cycle as he will cutback while protecting the puck and will drive to the net.”

Speaking of Janesville, the Janesville Jets (NAHL) announced that that forward Arsenii Smekhnov has committed to play for Long Island University.

Smekhnov, 19, just completed his second season of playing junior hockey, which has been spent between the NAHL and USHL. A native of Kirov, Russia, split the 2019-20 between the Janesville Jets and the Youngstown Phantoms and Fargo Force in the USHL.

Originally a UConn recruit, Smekhnov joined the Jets at the trading deadline and appeared in 11 games, recording six points (1 goal, 5 assists) after scoring 13 points in 86 USHL games.

“Long forward that plays a smart, controlled game,” said NZ scouts. “He is a possession player that likes the puck on his stick in the offensive zone. Facilitated the offense by making direct passes and also when in trouble, putting the puck into areas that gave his teammates a high percentage chance of winning the puck. He has a heavy shot with a quick release. Doesn’t hesitate to shoot from anywhere.”
