Quebec Remparts to Sign Two Finnish Players

The Quebec Remparts selected Viljami Marvala and Aapo Siivonen in the CHL Import Draft last month, and the two Finnish-born players will reportedly sign deals with the club; if they do, they will become the first two Finnish players in Remparts history, per a report from the CBC.

Remparts head Patrick Roy had talks with the players prior to the draft, and they confirmed that they were interested in the QMJHL; both players are represented by the same agent.

“(Marvala) is a key player,” Roy said.

Marvala has been described as one of the best U17 players in his age group. Last season at the U17 World Cup, he had six points in five games and he played for Oulun Karpat in Finland last season.

His countrymate, Siivonen, is 6-feet tall and plays a shutdown role on defense.

“He’s a guy who plays all over 200 feet,” said Roy, who believes he might be paired with Evan Nause.

Both players are eligible for the 2021 NHL Draft.
