Wisconsin’s Messner Transfers to Merrimack

Wisconsin center Mick Messner is headed to North Andover, committing to transfer to the Merrimack men’s hockey program out of the NCAA transfer portal.

Messner will have two seasons of eligibility remaining when he joins the Warriors; he’s appealing to the NCAA in an effort to be eligible immediately. The ’99-born forward, who is a Madison, Wisc. native, led the Badgers in faceoff percentage in each of his two seasons with the program.

As a freshman Messner had 12 points (5 goals, 7 assists) and was invited to development camp with the Vegas Golden Knights. This past season he was limited to 23 games, scoring one goal and adding one assist.

Messner had very good numbers in the USHL during his junior career. In 2017-18 he captained the Madison Capitols and had 45 points in 60 games. He was drafted No. 5 overall in the 2015 USHL Futures Draft by the Capitols and in 2016-17 was a member of Team USA’s team for the Hlinka Gretzky Cup, which is an international tournament consisting of the best under-18 players in the world; he had two goals in four games for Team USA.
