Harvard’s Rathbone Signs NHL Deal with Vancouver

Harvard sophomore forward Jack Rathbone signed an entry-level contract with the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday, forgoing the final two years of his NCAA eligibility.

Rathbone had 31 points last season (7 goals, 24 assists). Harvard’s hockey season is in doubt after the Ivy League announced last week that it was halting all sports until at least Jan. 1, 2021.

“Jack is a dynamic player,” said Vancouver GM Jim Benning. “He has the ability to transition the puck from the defensive zone, brings good offensive instincts and plays with an edge to his game. We are pleased to have Jack join our roster.”

The 5’11”, 190-pound defenseman was originally drafted 95th overall by Vancouver in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. In two seasons with Harvard University, Rathbone accumulated 53 points (14-39-53) in 61 games.
