Long Island University hired Brett Riley as its head coach last week, and on Monday, the Sharks added their first player.
’99-born defenseman Jordan DiCicco announced his commitment to the program. A native of London, Ont., DiCicco had a strong offensive season for the Brooks Bandits in the AJHL, posting six goals and 24 assists in 41 games. Last season he had 46 points (6 goals, 40 assists) in 58 games, helping lead the Bandits to the Doyle Cup and the RBC Cup.
DiCicco was ranked No. 272 in our 1999’s National Rankings report, which featured more than 750 players.
Prior to the AJHL, DiCicco played in the GOJHL for the London Nationals. He also played one season. in the OJHL for the Cobourg Cougars.
“Has a cannon of a shot that he isn’t afraid to use,” said NZ scouts. “Not afraid to jump into the play and go to the net which resulted in a good tip for a goal. Eats pucks by blocking them very well, and quarterbacks the power play creating good scoring chances.”
“He is a skilled, puck moving defenseman with agile feet and great touch on his passes,” scouts said from his days in the GOHJL. “He likes to join the rush and manage the offense from the blue line on the power play, but his best attribute is his skating and ability to escape pressure on breakouts and move the puck up ice. He was quick, savvy and creative in this game and showed why he is one of the higher point producing defenders in the league this year.”
