QMJHL: Baie-Comeau Drakkar Signs Chouinard

The Baie-Comeau Drakkar announced the signing of defenseman Emile Chouinard on Friday. The 17-year-old will be at training with the team this fall.

According to a story on the team’s website, he was mulling multiple NCAA offers before choosing the Drakkar.

“We presented Émile with our hockey project and the strengths of our school staff,” said GM Pierre Rioux. “The good reputation of the Drakkar on this aspect certainly played a role in the player’s decision.”

Chouinard has good size (6-foot-4) and had 13 points for the Blizzards du Séminaire-St-François AAA midget team this past season.

“This is very good news for our supporters,” said Rioux. “Émile is a young, motivated defender who is ready to compete for a role in our defensive brigade. He still has a lot of room for improvement and we are convinced that the coaching staff in place will be able to help him continue his development in Baie-Comeau.”
