NCAA: DeDobbelaer Commits to UMass; St. Norbert, Gustavus Add Commits

’00 F Eric DeDobbelaer to UMass for 2020

The Brantford, Ont. native has played his entire junior career in his hometown. He started with the Brantford Bandits in the GOJHL and then transitioned to the Brantford 99ers, where this season he scored 8 goals and added 25 assists in 53 games.

“I couldn’t be happier for Eric,” said 99ers head coach Dan Fitzgerald. “If there’s anyone who understands that this is just the beginning, it’s Eric. He’s been relentless in his pursuit to improve every day. Coach (Greg) Carvel (at UMass) is getting a character person with a team-first attitude.”

’99 F Will Stromp to St. Norbert for 2020

Earlier this month, Stromp was ranked No. 33 in our Top-50 Uncommitted 99’s Report.

Stromp is a Texas native who appeared in 40 games for the Lone Star Brahmas in the NAHL this season, scoring 7 goals and adding 18 assists. Stromp had similar totals last year in the BCHL, where in 43 games for the Langley Rivermen he scored 7 goals and added 14 assists.

NZ Scouts on Stromp: “Stromp has a rare combination of being strong on his skates and balanced while having light, elusive hands and the ability to dangle around defenders. He made a lot of slick stick moves, showed off his quick release snap shot and maneuvered efficiently away from the puck.”

’99 F Porter Haney to Gustavus Adolphus College for 2020

Haney is from Duluth, Minn. and he played his high school hockey at Duluth East. After graduation he joined the Rochester Grizzlies in the NA3HL. This season he scored 16 goals and added 31 assists in 37 games.

NZ Scouts on Haney: “He was all over the ice and near a lot of positive plays. He created chaos and turnovers on the forecheck as he flew in and gave opponents zero time to move pucks up. His angles in pursuit were smart and his stick was active and quick. He is not a big player but was a pest all game. Tough to play against and full tilt all the time. When he did get the puck, his first step was at the cage and he quickly burst through seams.”
