OHL: World Junior Hero Akil Thomas Reportedly Traded

TSN’s Darren Dreger reported on Wednesday night that Team Canada World Junior hero Akil Thomas has been traded to the Peterborough Petes. No details were available as far as what the Niagara Ice Dogs would receive in compensation.

Thomas scored the game-winning goal in the gold medal game for Team Canada against Russia this past weekend.

Neutral Zone has Thomas rated as a 4.25-star prospect. The 20-year-old was selected in the second round of the 2018 NHL Draft by the Los Angeles Kings.

Thomas has 44 points in 27 games this season, scoring 15 goals and adding 29 assists. Last season, Thomas finished with 102 points (38 goals, 64 assists) in 63 games.

According to Dreger, Thomas still has to waive his no-trade clause in order for the deal to become official.
