NCAA Commits: Rubin Chooses Princeton

The Princeton Tigers received some good news earlier this week, when 3.5-star defenseman Tyler Rubin announced that he had verbally committed to the program.

Rubin is a Wayland, Mass. native who plays for Belmont Hill. The ’03 is playing for the Boston Jr. Eagles U16 team this fall and he was also invited to USA Hockey’s Select 16 camp this past summer.

Committed for 2022, Rubin was given a B grade by our scouts at the Select 16’s in July.

“Rubin is a polished, smooth-skating two-way defenseman out of Belmont Hill who is small in stature but elusive and tough to get a body on,” our scouts said. “His breakouts were excellent because he got to the puck instantly, could make a quick turn and either skate it out or make a quick tape to tape pass up ice. His rushes were smooth and controlled, he made swift outlets and didn’t try to force plays or overhandle the puck and he could separate from nearly any forechecker with his feet alone.”

Princeton’s ECAC rival, Yale, received a commitment from 4-star defenseman Bayard Hall. Committed for 2021, Hall will play at Salisbury this season after a 17-point season there last year.

Hall was originally committed to Brown and had a strong showing at the ECC Labor Day Cup last month.

“The Salisbury defender makes simple plays on the back end of the ice and likes to move pucks north,” said our scouts. “Hall is a shutdown defender. He is a strong skater and can close on forwards quickly. He likes to challenge them and make them make a decision.”

AIC snagged defenseman Alexander Tertyshny. Originally from Philadelphia, Tertyshny is currently playing for Belye Medvedi Chelyabinsk in the MHL, a Russian junior league and typically a feeder for the KHL. He’s slated to arrive at AIC in 2020.

Jake Livingstone committed to Minnesota State. A 3.75-star defenseman from Creston, B.C., Livingstone has 18 points (3 goals, 15 assists) in 16 games with the Langley Rivermen (BCHL) this season. Livingstone has good size at 6-foot-4 and he’s committed to the Mavs for 2020.

UMass picked up a 3.75-star defenseman Mike Adamson this week. The left shot is scheduled to hit campus in 2021. The former B.C. High defender played at Dexter last season.

“Mike is a small, puck-moving defender that plays a responsible game in his own end,” our scouts said last season. “He has a strong base and is aggressive and is tough to separate from the puck. Mike has a quick first step and closes on forwards quickly. He makes slick plays behind his net to create space for the breakout.”

Ryan Coughlin, a 3.5-star forward, committed to Robert Morris. Coughlin has 11 points in 16 games for Corpus Christi in the NAHL this season. Previously, the ’01 also played for Selects Academy.

“There is nothing fancy about his game, he uses his reach well carrying the puck and has a good shot,” our scouts said. “He is a smart, support player with the right linemates. Gets to good spots and made his team better.”
