WHL Signings: Prince Albert Signs Goaltender Carter Serhyenko

Goaltender Carter Serhyenko signed a WHL standard player agreement with the Prince Albert Raiders this week.

Serhyenko is an ’02-born netminder who spent the last two seasons playing for the Battlefords Stars of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League.

“Carter is a big, strong capable goaltender,” said Raiders General Manager Curtis Hunt. “He came into camp and earned this opportunity.”

Prince George signed forward Davin Griffin this week to a standard player agreement.

Griffin, an ’02 from Regina, Sask., was acquired by the Cougars earlier this month from Prince Albert for a draft choice. Griffin played the last two seasons with the Saskatoon Contacts in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League. Griffin finished last season with 46 points (26 goals, 20 assists) in 43 games.

In his Bantam Draft season, Griffin was the top goal-scorer the Saskatchewan Bantam AA Hockey League with 50 goals in 30 regular-season games.

“A good shooter with a deceptive release,” our scouts said. “He needs to stop leaking out of his own zone to try and get a step on his opponents in transition. He is more than likely doing this because he lacks the foot speed to break away into open space against most defenders. When he does get time and space he likes to make plays with his vision and solid passing.”

The Brandon Wheat Kings signed ’04-born forward Jesiah Bennett. Bennett played last season with Rink Hockey Academy Bantam Prep, where he had 31 points (15 goals, 16 assists) in 29 games. Bennett received an A- grade from our scouts when he was observed at the Rocky Mountain Classic.

“Bennett is a hard-working forward who competes hard on every shift and makes it annoying for the opposing defenders by being a physical presence and taking away time and space off the rush,” our scouts said. “In the offensive end he battles down low and comes off the boards with speed and likes to attack the net and draw in defenders to see if he can open ice for a teammate.”
