Ty Gallagher Commits to Miami (Ohio)

Ty Gallagher has committed to Miami University of Ohio for the 2022-2023 season. Ty has done well this season, getting an ‘A’ grade in our last three reports of him. NZ scouts have described him as an offensive defenseman with a well rounded skill set.

The Michigan native told us how he started playing:

“When I was two years old, kids on my street would play roller hockey right down the road from my house and when we would drive past them I would make my parents stop the car so I could join in. I got on the ice just after that and my parents couldn’t get me off.” Ty has gone on to have a successful youth hockey career,I have had great coaches that have had positive influences with my development and have made some of my greatest friendships throughout my youth hockey career. Also, with my teams over the years I have won 3 International Silver Stick tournaments, 5 State Championships, the PeeWee Quebec tournament, and the 14U National Championship, which have been the greatest experiences of my life.” Elaborating on his team’s National Title, “It was the best experience of my life. The best part about it was the team I won it with. They are some of my best friends and we will never forget that moment in NC.”

Along with Miami (Ohio), Ty had several offers from other NCHC schools:

“Miami was the best fit for me. When I first drove onto Miami’s campus I fell in love. All of the academic buildings were amazing and most importantly the hockey facility was great. The coaches were interested in what I had to offer on the ice and I was interested with what the opportunities the university and hockey program had to offer for me.” Thinking about life after hockey, “I am going to major in business with a focus in finance so I can prepare for life after my career in hockey.”

Ty still has a few season before heading off to Ohio:

“It has always been my goal to play Division 1 college hockey, so this motivates me to improve my game every day. This coming spring, there will be the USA National Team Development Program, USHL, and OHL drafts. I am working hard on my game to set myself up for any of these three opportunities.” Ty shows no signs of slowing down and has big goals in the future, “[I want to] continue to develop my game to help Miami University to a National Championship and make the NHL to have a chance at the Stanley Cup.”

When asked about the greatest challenge he has faced in hockey:

“I hurt my shoulder at the beginning of National camp this past summer in Buffalo, so I had to recover quickly and become stronger than I was before.”  And how he got through the tough times, “My dad has always been by my side along the way, motivating me to always do my best and push myself to get better.”

When asked about his favorite NHL player:

“Brent Burns, because he is a big physical defense man who has the ability to make plays and score goals offensively with his hard shot, as well as being able to play lockdown defense.”

Ty was considered one of the top uncommitted prospects in the state of Michigan before giving his verbal to Miami-Ohio.
