Ian Carpentier Commits to Endicott College

Ian Carpentier has announced his commitment to Endicott University for the 2019-2020 season. NZ scouts have taken note of Ian’s skating ability, separation speed, and stick handling skills.

Following his father’s footsteps, “I started playing hockey around the age of 6 in Michigan and Montreal, as my dad was a hockey player himself playing in the UHL.” Ian played squirts in Quebec City then continued his peewee hockey in New England. He started playing for the Junior Bruins organizations at the u16 level, playing a year above his age group, “I played almost 3 years of u16 hockey for Coach Topher Bevis. He really made an impact on developing my game to start playing up to my potential. The biggest [challenge for] me was starting off as a young player playing u16 hockey. It definitely took a while to adjust to the quickness and physicality of the game.”

Ian has moved his way up through the organization, currently playing for the Junior Bruins USPHL Premier team (but has seen some games up at the NCDC level as well). He talks about his journey with the program, “The Junior Bruins have done everything they could have for me during my past 6 years in the program. They have shaped me into the player I am today. [They] do a great job recruiting for their players and making sure all their players play to the best of their potential.”

In 2017, Ian was drafted to the QMJHL, “Playing in the QMJHL was never really on my list ever, so I wasn’t keeping track of the draft all. My dad was a very good hockey player back in his day, being on central scouting. He’s always told me what was the best path to take, what mistakes he made throughout his career, and told me what to do and not to do.”

Focusing on NCAA hockey, he tells us about his recruitment, “Endicott showed very strong interest in me and my game during the summer. A few other D1 schools in Hockey East and ECAC liked the way I played and wanted to keep following up on me throughout my Junior years of hockey.” As to why he decided on Endicott, “They have a great hockey program. I love the campus, the coach, and their academic programs. They have a great pre med program that prepares students extremely well with all of the internship opportunities [they] present to their students.”

Ian will be starting his NCAA career soon after turning 19, again being one of the younger players on the team, “Getting into school and starting my career next year is very exciting, and will give me a head start on both my hockey career and academic career.” He explains what he plans to do when hockey ends, “I’ve always wanted to pursue a career in the medical field leaning towards cystic fibrosis. My sister was diagnosed at birth with CF. And it has always been a dream of mine to study and research for cures and help people all around the world with cystic fibrosis.“

He is working extra hard to make sure he is ready for collegiate hockey, “This season I need to keep getting bigger and stronger to be able to compete with much older guys who are more maturely developed than me. I think my coaches and I have been doing a great job every year with our goals.”

Ian has competed in 7 games this season and earning 3 points; 2 goals and 1 assist with the USPHL Premier team.
