Players we noted this game:

WINNIPEG SHARKS

Rhonan White #19 (D, R, 5’7”, 130lbs, 2002)- Rhonan was the Sharks best player in today’s game. He’s a quick skating defenseman with good instincts and smart reads. He loves to skate with the puck or join the rush and played a lot of power play time. The 2002 was effective at getting his shots on net forcing the goalie to make the save. He keeps his head on a swivel and is strong with his breakouts and passing. The 15-year-old needs to watch his gap as it was a bit too far on some occasions, but other than that he played a solid game and is a very intriguing prospect who finished the game with 1 assist. Grade: A-

Brandon Ambrozik #14 (F, L, 6’0”, 143lbs, 2002)- Brandon is a quick skating center with a lot of versatility. He played on the PP and PK and was effective on both. He positions himself well in the offensive zone and loves to sit in the high-slot waiting for passes or to shut-down an upcoming breakout. The 2002 is strong on face-offs and scored both power play goals for the Sharks. He has a smooth stride but can work on developing that extra gear. The 15 year old is equipped with a heavy shot and used it often. Grade: B+

Ciaran McVicker #35 (G, L, 5’11”, 195lbs, 2002)- Ciaran was busy in today’s game stopping 45 of 49 shots in a losing effort. The 2002 is quick and flexible and made some big stretch saves that were to be sure goals. He started shaky in the first period and let in a soft goal, but he managed to calm down in the second and third and gave his team a chance to comeback. We noticed he looked behind him at times and was unsure whether he actually had the pucks covered or not so his confidence could have been better tonight. Grade: B

Brandon McDonald #12 (F, L, 5’10”, 175lbs, 2002)- Brandon played a physical game with a lot of grit. He consistently finishes his checks and isn’t afraid to mix things up. He’s strong on his skates and made a lot of big hits in today’s game. The 2002 displayed a heavy shot and distributed the puck efficiently on the power play. At times, however, the 15-year-old took low percentage shots on the power play that resulted in pucks getting cleared out of the zone. He also got involved in a scrum in the third period that resulted in him getting 16 penalty minutes. He needs to keep his gritty game but do better to not cross the line. Grade: B-

Chase Sobey #18 (F, R, 5’8”, 175lbs, 2002)- Chase had a strong first period; he made some quick/creative passes to his teammates and distributed the puck nicely. He displayed a quick stride and smooth skating abilities, and he showed off some slick hands with his dangle ability. The 2002’s night went downhill after that when he took a bad penalty then proceeded to argue with the referee and get a ten-minute misconduct. He put forth a good effort again in the third but can work on consistency. Grade: B-

WINNIPEG HAWKS

Alex Loschiavo #18 (F, L, 6’2”, 160lbs, 2002)- Alex plays a heavy north-south game and loves to take pucks wide and drive the net. He displayed a heavy shot with a quick release and used it often. The 2002 saw time on the PP and PK and was effective at both. He put on a lot of puck pressure on the PK and moved the puck efficiently on the PP. He did well to use his toe-drag release to get his shots on net. The 15 year old finished with 1 goal and 1 assist. Grade: A-

Ashton Howarth #1 (G, L, 5’10”, 140lbs, 2002)- Ashton played a solid game in net; finishing with 38 saves on 40 shots for a .950 save percentage in the victory. He displayed a quick glove hand and stayed focused all game long. The 2002 displayed a high-compete level and battled to find pucks through traffic and during scrums in-front of the net. He stopped pucks behind the net and made passes to his defensemen if he needed to. The 15 year old has quick mobility and loves to go butterfly often. Grade: A-

Brandon McCartney #9 (D, L, 6’1”, 180lbs, 2002)- Brandon played a strong game on the back-end and was the Hawks best defenseman in the game. He’s a smooth skater and is capable of skating with the puck up ice or jumping in on the rush. He works hard in the corners and battles for pucks and positioning. The 2002 transitions from defence to offence quickly and played a lot of PP and PK time. He made some high-risk passes on a 5 on 3 that resulted in turnovers; otherwise the 15 year old played a well-rounded game. He finished with 1 goal and 1 assist and is a 3rd round draft pick of the Neepawa Natives in the 2017 MJHL Draft. Grade: B+

Tyrone Willan #2 (F, L, 5’10”, 150lbs, 2002)- Tyrone is a smooth skating forward with a quick step and slick hands. He’s elusive in the corners and does well to create space. He was strong on the penalty kill and put on consistent puck pressure causing multiple turnovers. He played on the point during the power play and was great at keeping pucks in the zone and keeping the play alive. The 2002 finished with 1 assist and currently leads the team with 35 points through 27 games. The 15-year-old was drafted in 2017, round 5 #52 overall by the Selkirk Steelers in the MJHL Draft. Grade: B

Cristiano Rodrigues #14 (F, L, 6’0”, 165lbs, 2001)- Cristiano is a solid two-way center and serves as the team’s captain. His passing abilities are strong; he makes hard tape-to-tape passes and distributes the puck effectively. The 2001 battles for pucks along the boards and has a high-compete level. He isn’t a flashy player; he puts forth a consistent effort every shift and does the little things well. The 16-year-old plays a north-south style game and has solid straight-away speed, but he has room to improve his quickness. Grade: B
